which release are you working on ?

If it is V2R5.x then it is very likely that the optimizer does not recognize the possible partition eliminations, if you somehow calculate the value.

V2R5:

     where book_date = date'2006-12-10

is recognized

     where book_date between date'2006-12-01' and date'2006-12-10'

is recognized

     where book_date = date - 1

may be recognized ( depending on the release )

This is heavily improved in V2R6.x.
