Subj:   Re: Collecting statistics on Join Indexes

From:   Victor Sokovin

When I run an explain plan with diagnostics on, it recommends that I collect statistics on certain column combinations for Join indexes. I know I can collect statistics on the join index as a whole with the index option, is there a way to collect statistics on column combinations? We are on V2R5.

It is a strange recommendation indeed as Teradata manuals (even the V2R6.1 editions) quite clearly state that we can collect non-indexed multi- column statistics on permanent base tables only. Perhaps this should be understood as an implicit recommendation for creating an index on the specified columns or perhaps it refers to some undocumented / yet unreleased features, or perhaps it is just a bug.

Regards,

Victor
