Subj:   Re: Way to Copy Statistics.

From:   Dittrich, Klaus

Eric,

additionally to the mentioned way (using SPs and the Stats view) there's another method to copy Stats from one table to another, using the "Help Stats" command, reordering the resulting fields and executing a "Collect Stats On table1 Column column1 Values (...)".

As the Help-Stats seems to return 4 different kinds of result sets (Index - Non-Index - Non-Numeric - Multi-Column), the difficulty here is to get the values into the correct order (I still didn't figure out the Multi-Column part completely), but once you understand the syntax, it's working fine (and takes only seconds instead of hours for recollecting stats on a 1 Terabyte table).

Of course, the Collect-Stats-Values statement is not documented (as far as I know) and used at own risk ;-)

If any details are desired, just ask.

Regards,

Klaus
