We are tantalized by the potential of Join Indexes, but find that they don't get picked up when we strongly believe they should. Someday I'd love to see the Explain embellished to say why it ignored the Join Indexes that exist. Maybe we could turn it on as an optional parameter:

     Explain JI_Detail=YES mySQL;

The embellished Explain would tell me why it didn't use the JI. As it stands, we're playing 20 questions with Explain to guess what it will take to get it to work and usually end up giving up after 200 questions.
