Original question:

Is it possible to restrict the way a certain limited number of users can access Teradata or are there any tools that can achieve this? We want to ensure the that users with high levels of access can only submit queries via batch and not via ODBC?

Answer:

If you have asked your CE to config your LAN PE to one host number and your CHANNEL PE to another host number then this would be as simple as granting certain user such as ETL or batch user ids to the channel PE host number with grant logon statement found in SQL reference manual. Similarly grant your general public or ad hoc users to the LAN PE host number. The grant logon statement by default grant logon to all host numbers.

If you further define a LAN PE group attached to gigabite LAN with different host number than the LAN PE group attached to different LAN (100Mb) or public LAN then you can do the similar type of restriction.

This type of requirement need to be communicated to NCR/TERADATA CE before your system is configured or the cost of this may be a bit difficult for most customer to bear.

Hope this helps.
