I seem to have a success when I load this in Bteq by running, say, a script with the insert statement in it: .set session charset 'UTF8'; insert into T_UNI values('??????', '??????'); Both columns are Unicode. The script is executed via .run file=<script_name>; in Bteq. I then get the same data if I .export report file=c:\outofbteq_chinese.dat; Had to set a pretty large letter size in Notepad to be able to see the tiny elements of the hieroglyphs. What went in seems to match what comes out. I was not able to view the data in Win-Bteq with session set to UTF8. The "best" result was when I had set the font to NSimSun, script = CHINESE_GB2312. It looked like Chinese characters but some *other* Chinese characters (as far as I could judge). So, as other posters have mentioned, a lot depends on the tool/text editor in which you try to *view* the data. Regards, Victor
