Every opinion and I have heard on PPIs agree that 90% of the effort involved in using PPI is deciding whether or not to use it and how. Only 10% of your time will be spent actually doing it and maintaining it. A great deal of planning, analysis of the table's usage and testing permutations will need to be set out and signed off before you can have confidence in your PPI. When they work they can offer some great advantages, but if the right PPI is not created you can run into very significant performance problems. Best of luck
