Naveen: The BYNET interface board on each AMP maintains a hash map on each node because Teradata is a shared nothing architecture. Each AMP has its own processor, memory and disk. Actually each node in a Teradata system has a set of four hash maps, each performing a different function. Primary hash map for the current AMP configuration FALLBACK hash map for the current AMP configuration Primary hash map for a new AMP configuration FALLBACK hash map for a new AMP configuration Each Hash Map is an array of 65 536 entries (yes, the manual has a typo as Robert Meunier wrote). I do not know if this answered your question but you can find more detailed information about hash maps in Teradata Database Design reference manual, Chapter 8. Regards, Otzmar
