Hi Bill,

To the best of my knowledge, ARCMAIN can very well backup data to a file on local/network drives (mapped/mounted as local).

You will have to run ARCMAIN from the system where the drive exists (or it is mapped/mounted to).

The 'FILE' parameter inside the ARC script specifies the filename of the archived data file.

I am not sure if this kind of archiving (especially Teradata database) is possible using Netvault or Netbackup.

But, remember that using this method has below disadvantages:

1. No hardware compression applied to the data as in the case of Tape drives

2. Since there is no GUI in this process, writing scripts and their execution becomes a complex activity

3. If the data is traveling on the network where other devices are also connected, then the speed at which this data transfer can happen is a big question

4. Working with Cluster backups can be more difficult task

5. Scheduling of backup/restore jobs has to be manually handled

6. You will not be able to know the contents of a FILE unless you run ANALYZE statement or document the actually Archive script output

7. Finally and most importantly, NCR may not support this kind of BAR implementation

Take your chances and let's know the results...

Regards.
