Is it possible to re-use INMODS written in Cobol for a mainframe platform when porting to a UNIX box if recompiled with Microfocus Cobol for UNIX? I notice NCR documentation says that is possible to use Microfocus Cobol although it is neither recommended or suppported. The question is, is it sensible and satisfactory to do so? INMODS seem to be able to do anything from reading databases to just receiving records from MLOAD. If an INMOD is doing complex processing, then a change of platform would most likely stuff it up in some way. However if it was just doing simple processing such as header/trailer record processing it would seem possible to me that it could be ported. Since mainframe/teradata is often the starting environment (before volumes justify additional infrastructure of loading from a unix environment) I expect that quite a number of people have faced porting MLOADS from mainframe to unix. What has been the experience. Do existing INMODS always have to be re-written. Are there other gothca's to look out for?
