Hi, I've got the Teradata demo s/w (version 5.0) running on my laptop which uses Windows XP service pack 2. This installation is 'months old' and has always worked fine... until a couple of weeks ago. I cannot connect (i.e. logon) to the DBMS anymore. Using the DBW I get messages as below - attempting to connect to CNS - Connection lost windows error (10061) bad address Using Queryman (therefore ODBC) I get "host unreachable". I've checked the hosts file and that looks ok. I've got "demotdatcop1" and "demotdat" entries. I can ping using those names. I can ping "localhost". If I look in the Windows Control Panel/Services applet it says that the "Teradata GTW Reserve Port" service is started. The "Teradata Database Initiator (recond)" service is not showing as started, but if I try and start it I get a message saying that the 'service is already stated, this instance is terminating'. If I use the "Teradata Service Control" application, that says that "Teradata is running". I can use the "Teradata Command Prompt" to issue a "tpareset" command. Looking in the Windows Control Panel/Event Viewer applet I can see all of the normal startup messages, starting AMP partitions, starting PE partitions, system is operational etc etc. What's going wrong ? I'm not aware of any other changes to my laptop at the time that this stopped working. I've a feeling that this is going to be a very simple fix, but I cannot think what it is right now.
