David, We are currently using JIs (mulit-table with inner joins, non-compressed, Aggregated) which are used by the optimizer to join to tables which weren't included in the JI's DDL. So, either the optimizer thinks that using the JI is too expensive or a discrepancy exists between the optimizer's use of JIs depending on whether or not it includes a LOJ in its definition... either way, it sounds you need to open an incident with Teradata. At a minimum, they will be able to prove that using the JI is more expensive than the alternative (granted, unlikely...). Or, you will help them identify a costing issue which they can correct. Or, you will have identified a bug they need to fix in their code. Good luck, Clay Claybourne L. Barrineau
