Subj:   Re: Why do I get a spool space error

From:   Victor Sokovin

I hate to be pedantic, but I think we need to get back to basics here.

In order to understand spool issues, we need to look at explains of the 2 queries so that we can see the choices the optimiser is making. Adding a GROUP BY will definitely change the plan, and if random AMP samples are causing the redistribution of the big table on occasion, that will lead to issues ...

This suggestion does not appear to be pedantic. In fact, examining the explain plans and data distributions would be the next natural step to undertake. However, some threads here tend to stop just at the moment when they become interesting. Can happen for multiple reasons: OP does not have time to follow all the advices or does not know how to follow them, or OP was just hoping for an easy remedy and having failed to get one lost any interest in the case, etc. Fair enough. Everybody spends as much time here as they wish. Of course, with more feedback from OPs threads could become much more interesting and useful.

Regards,

Victor
