Vijay -

As Dieter said its very hard to compare one RDBMS with other without knowing the business Model and the type of your application . Netezza is targeting and showing performance in CDR (Call detail Records) .. Just don't go with COST basis only ..I know its cheap but you have so many disadvantages bcos Netezza leverages established capabilities instead of building them ... We did a deep analysis on this product a year back and decided it will not suit our Application needs (ours is SQL intensive) . Here is the analysis I did in June 2004

I don't think this would be a good product to review at this time because the product is still unproven in the market and of personal concerns about the underlying architecture (PostgresSQL). It may be worth keeping an eye on this product and taking a closer look at it again in 2-3 years. Here is a summary of the key points.

They have very few customers (currently 12). Listed customers in marketing material are AT&T, Orange UK, TJX, and Epsilon.

They went to production on 4Q 2003.

Netezza Performance Server(NPS) consists of DBMS software and hardware.

A few key technical points:

Operating System used is LINUX.

NPS leverages established capabilities instead of building them to bring its product to market very quickly.

NPS uses PostgresSQL, however Postgres has not been known for its query processing capabilities.
