Hi all:

I need feedback on Teradata ETL Tools use.

This has been a unique project in many ways.

First, the customer wanted to develop its own fully automated, 100% parametric ETL tool based on Teradata Stored Procedures technology.

This development sub-project has failed.

Now the customer is buying an ETL tool that has never been used for Teradata ETL. The provider has plans to adapt the tool in a short period of time.

At this point I really want to know if ETL tools resolve practically ALL the ETL development needs, because that's what the ETL Tool providers claim. The customer has been led to believe that ETL development staff wont be necessary (I'm not in ETL development fortunately).

I'd like feedback from the people who actually had to implement the tool, that is, technical people. And if possible, let me refine my search to those that are experts using the Teradata Load Tools (i.e. fastload, multiload, tpump, fastexport, bteq).

A) Is it true that ETL tools actually meet all the ETL development needs.

B) In case the answer to the previous question is NO, do they help with the difficult transformations ?

C) ETL tools actually use the parallel features of Teradata extensively?
