Good catch, Dieter. The SQLA manual seems to treat them differently, and sometimes in a rather vague way which makes you wonder what exactly they mean in different sections. As an example I can quote the "Execute Parallel Command" portion:

"Execute Parallel Command

With the Execute Parallel command, Teradata SQL Assistant does not attempt to remove comments before the query is submitted. This is the only way to submit a query that contains the strings /* or */.

ANSI-style comments (starting with '--' and continuing to the end of that line) are removed from the beginning of the query. The ANSI-style comments are only removed from the beginning of the first statement because the entire query is treated like one statement.

Teradata SQL Assistant for Microsoft Windows User Guide 25 Note: The ODBC driver might remove your comments if the Allow use of ODBC SQL extensions check box is selected. To see the status of this check box, from the Tools menu, select Options, and click the Query tab."

Regards,

Victor
