Is it also slower from BTEQ on the same client? If so it may be a network issue or client setting.

This may help a little, but won't be the silver bullet.

Change the Buffer size in the connection configuration.

     CONFIGURE...OPTIONS...ADVANCED

Set maximum response buffer size to 65477 (or whatever the max allowed)
