The discussion about visual EXPLAIN raises an issue which is brought up by a lot of my fellow developers: is there any other way of measuring the effectiveness of the query except the EXPLAIN. In a lot of cases it is not giving us what we want.

Can somebody also elaborate more about visual EXPLAIN, I have never heard about it.
