Subj:   Re: Compression and join indexes

From:   Ole Dunweber

Hi,

The purpose is to save space - as is the purpose of field compression. The datatypes of fields splitted is DECIMAL or INTEGER.

As an example we have a lot monetary fact fields internally represented in EURos. For precision we need 4 decimals, and therefore we need a DECIMAL(18,4) and a DECIMAL(9,4), one of which is 0-compressed.

Last year I submitted an ER requesting "Support for VARYING DECIMAL and VARYING INTEGER datatypes". It was rejected as a new ER, because a duplicate already existed.

I would very much like this ER to be implemented!

Best Regards,

Ole
