Subj:   Re: Column Data Encryption?
From:   Victor Sokovin

It was not difficult to find the thread as it has already been googled (thanks, John!):

Just to react on the UDF suggestion: yes, but why bother if there are loads of utilities in the public domain? Probably not all of them are good but there should be a few properly tested "canonical" ones. It is important to have a bug free utility because one of the aspects of working with encrypted data is that it is difficult to test the data quality after encryption. If, for example, a buggy algorithm maps two different values into one encrypted string, it might take some time before you discover it, and what do you do then? Some algorithms do not even guarantee such uniqueness - one of the points to pay attention to while shopping for the right algorithm.
