Subj:   Re: Secondary Index on Volatile tables

From:   Dieter Noeth

  1. Can you drop an index on an existing volatile table, and if so how?

No

  2. Can you create an index on an existing volatile table, and if so how?

No

  3. Stats can't be collected but I thought stats on SI's were important?

Yes

  4. Is this an undocumented feature?

It's probably just a parser bug ;-)

I don't believe you could do this in the past and I was interested on any feedback you may have.

I definitley wrote something similar, when volatile tables were introduced and it throw an error.

Since then i know about that restriction and never try it again :-)

I just checked it on V2R6: It still doesn't support create/drop index, but your DDL worked.

Then i inserted some rows and used Ferret showb/l: Both subtables exist.

A select using the index column worked like any select without stats: The index is only used for equality, if the Random AMP sample shows a high selectivity.
