Subj:   Re: ASF2 through-put and system slowdowns

From:   Christopher Platt

it has been a long time since we used asf2....i found this on ncr@your service web site.

When running an ASF2 archive job, the following error was reported in the output file:

*** Failure ARC0800:An open error occurred on file JNLGDC -
Archive file open failure, code: -410.
*** SEMAPHORE SETUP FAILEDSEGNOLAST COUNT INCORRECT

Probable Cause:

The parent arcmain process was not able to find enough shared memory to open the file.

Configuration Data:

3500/3600/4300/5100 with Teradata and ASF2

Solution:

1. Terminate any other ASF2 jobs that might be running, and quit ASF2 Graphic User Interface (GUI).

2. Enter reel stop at command line to stop REEL servers.

3. Run the script /usr/XASF/bin/xasfcleanup to release shared memory and semaphores.

4. Enter reel start at command line.

5. Start ASF2 GUI, and run the archive job again.

Additional Information/Comments:

If arcmain processes are killed with "-9", or any other way except with kill "-15", they will not release shared memory and semaphores, and this problem can result. You can run ipcs and look for keys with a5f: these are the semaphores and shared memory segments not released by ASF2.
