Mark,
| Today's high speed processors, memories and advanced caching make it reasonable to perform a checksum in software, trading data integrity
protection for a moderate performance impact. This tradeoff can be fine tuned through the advanced controls offered by the Teradata Disk I/O
Integrity Check Feature. First, the feature is optional. Second, the feature may be enabled on a table by table basis. Third, the checksum may
be applied to some or all of the data corresponding to each disk sector. | |
I recently had a chance to look at some CRC calculations (outside of Teradata but that's aside) and am now convinced that it is not a
luxury thing to calculate them on a regular basis. Thanks for the heads up on this new feature in TD. Could you explore a bit more on the last
part you mentioned, i.e., the disk sector level?
Regards,
Victor
