Subj:   ETL Approach Recommendations

Greeting,

We have been working with the Teradata ETL for 2 years.

Our process to load and clean/modify/apply data uses MLoad and TDSP (TD Stored Procedure) respectively.

I have heard that the TDSP processing is slow and ETL People prefer not to use it.

We have never faced this problem and rather feel that we get lot of SQL functionality while running via TDSP.

Our databases sizes around 1TB+ each in 4 projects.

It might be possible that Organization with bigger databases uses different strategies.

I wanted to know from the ETL audience about the pros and cons on the different approaches of performing ETL without using external ETL tools.

I want to add few points for the discussion -

- Our source systems are not very reliable in terms of quality of data.

- Our source systems are not able to perform business rules transformation.

- Our source systems are not able to maintain the data integrity between different subject areas of business processes.

All the above reason leads us to implement them using TDSP.

Thanks.
