I'm pretty sure the BTEQ group has no plans to handle the ODBC escaped functions.

The intention of this RFC was (I think) to catch the accidental use of invalid functions in queries that are developed using SQL Assistant, but destined to run in a BTEQ environment.

As you say however, this could be considered a disadvantage for those who both create and use their queries in SQL Assistant. (More typing required) It would however be more in line with the ODBC spec.
