Are you sure you want to convert the data in that direction? Unicode uses 16 bit to store one chracter while Latin only uses 8. This means that
non-Latin chracters cannot be converted in genera. One could think of some customized solutions for certain languages which use 8-bit
encodings(e.g., Greek or Russian) and for certain purposes but such solutions do not come out of the box. So, to answer your question in general:
yes, you are likely to lose the data.
