Subj:   Teradata ODBC Driver + MS Access = More Trouble

From:   Harvat, Joe

Folks:

We are in the process of rolling out the Teradata ODBC driver version 3.03.00.02. However, end-users who use MS Access (versions 2000, 2002 and 2003) to build tables then export them to Teradata now report they are getting errors with the new driver. After some research, it would appear this new version is having difficulty correctly identifying text fields! It has no trouble with integers or even with memo data types, but plain old text fields are causing it to choke.

Loss of the ability to use MS Access in this fashion would pose a rather sizeable inconvenience to our end-user community. We don't have the option of going back to the old driver because it will become obsolete with our rapidly approaching rollout of V2R5. I really don't want to recommend the users replace text columns with memo columns (and end up with a database full of CLOBs) so I am extremely interested in any workaround ideas and recommendations from the group.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Joe Harvat
