Thanks all for the tips about COLLECT STATS on GTT's. Learned something there .. I had never pursued the issue further. But yes, indexes +
stats on GTT columns are big plusses over the volatile variety of temp tables... as well as derived. Increases effiiciency of joins, whereas
derived tables place limits on join options.
Back to the originator's question, I suppose GTTs offer a little bit of a debugging aid by allowing you to look at your derived data multiple
times w/o rerunning the "derived" portion of query. You would want to avoid GTTs if you desire a monolithic or "self-contained" query.
