  Join Index is a considered as a last solution when most methods fail of a join query.  


  I don't say it is not a good but you might have to consider a lot n lot of things to have JI in your warehouse. Fr more info on JI, the best place is the Teradata documentation (Database Design volume).  


  I don't mind saying that if you can figure out the problem of the existing query, then you can avoid writing a join index as well.  



I agree that JI still have some limitations. I have mentioned some of them in the earlier posting. However, JI might find their niche in dependent data marts of the EDW and they can become useful tools for advanced users working in their dedicated areas. JI administration might improve if there is enough interest in the user community and proper feedback is sent to NCR. I think that in particular single-table JI might eventually find their market, perhaps as a "new" summary feature on their own.
