One other thing to be aware of. If you have CASESPECIFIC specified on the column, then you must specify your charater string with the same mix of upper and lower characters.

So, to compress 'ABCdef' you should specify

COMPRESS 'ABCdef'

If NOT CASESPECIFIC then any combination works.
