With the available terms, the optimizer has no choice but to use a product join. There is no other join type that can handle join terms that
do on include at least one term where the operator is equal (=).
The low confidence estimate mentioned in the explain is an indication that you may not have collected statistics on the columns referenced in
the join terms. If that is the case, collecting those statistics has a reasonably good chance of causing the optimizer to choose a better
plan.
It's good that you're looking at the explain. The more of them you look at, the more they will tell you.
Does your query join just two tables, or are there more?
