That's just the way it's designed as the fastload uses insert block into the target table for speed. The fastload process does not read the actual target table back, it reads the underlying data that has just been loaded. I am sure that there other reasons for the restriction that Teradata engineering would have had for this. I can see where you are coming from though. The Update/Insert to a populated table is of course facilitated by Multiload. John
