Subj:   Re: Anybody using Teradata Warehouse Builder?

From:   Andy McCann

We've been using it for a bit now and it works fine, the loaders are basically the old legacy loaders with a few bits trimmed off. The only things to make sure you get on top of are as follows.

If you intend to use TDWB with a 3rd party tool (we use AI), make sure you prototype and fully understand how the two interact. Failure to do this could mean your load is not as efficient as it could be because the 3rd party tool hides a round robin partition or other trick that it may be using to throw data at the loader.

Also, keep an eye on the parallel pipe on the load server. We run on UNIX load servers and there have been some issues (with earlier versions of TDWB) where the parallel pipe deamon (PIPC) does not finish cleanly. This can cause many problems, from an individual user not being able to log on to all users not being able to log on. Read the manual on the PIPC section and it all becomes a bit clearer.

Once we got over our initial learning curve, its been very good and has performed well.

Hope this helps

Andy
