Subj:   Delete Query on a huge table taking too much time

From:   Agarwal, Rishi

Hi all,

I have a table that is having 485 million records in it. ETL cycle runs once in every quarter and during each ETL, around 30 million records get added to this table. This table has 4 columns and first column is the QuarterID. There is secondary index defined on this column. I had to delete last quarter's data so I ran the Delete query on this table as:-

Delete From <tablename> where QuarterID = 10;

I had run this query earlier also, it takes rime but this time it has been running for last 32 hours. PF state is being shown as DISPATCHING. I don't want to kill this job as I am afraid if I kill the job, rollback will take more time. Please suggest What to do in such scenario and what could be the reason behind this.

Thanks

Rishi
