The full answer to this question is to use the string shown in the 'Display this string for Null data values' field on the AnswerSet tab of the
options screen.
By default this will be '?' So the previous response would be correct in that case.
If your data contains <nothing> between the tabs to indicate nulls then you should set this field to an empty string. In other words
simply delete whatever is in this field. (Do not enter a space character.)
