You need to have a setting in your hosts file for the destination address using a COP1... Something like this...

122.23.45.64    edw     edwcop1

From there you should be able to login using .logon edw/username, password;

ODBC and CLI connections are different... This is the same for BTEQ, and the other Utilities using CLI...
