You can also use the named pipes access module on both unix and windows. Essentially this does the same thing as OLEDB, without the M$ pieces
of the equation.
Unix has been using memory pipes for a long time, this is really easy and reliable. The access module runs on Solaris, Irix(?), and others.
It needs fixing on HP-UX, but it's still a good alternative and I personally like unix. If you go Windows, I think I'd stick with the OLEDB,
given that the creation of the extracts and such are EXTREMELY easy, the GUI is simple.
