On a 2 node test system I recently and purposefully submitted a BTEQ with 100 sessions, submitting a huge query on each session. The
accidental results duplicated what you describe and would be supported by comments of Jim Judge and others. The symptoms sound like serious
overload. In my case I was testing TDQM for the purpose of preventing overload and the effort was not intended to kill the machine. As an
aside we did get TDQM working and it does prevent the overload problem. Not certain but all this sounds similar to your description.
