David, Thanks for the confirmation! With this storage doubling in mind I was considering alternatives like introduction of new Unicode based tables for non-Latin languages only (in my case rather small tables even with Unicode). These tables would have the same structure as the original tables except for the character set. Obvious cons of this approach are application changes in terms of loading jobs and user views. I perhaps could live with the changes in the loaders but I have my concerns about the views. I mean views based on something like this: select text_info from my_table_latin union select text_info from my_table_unicode. I am not at all sure that the 8- and 16-bit data will happily live together in them under all circumstances. I guess there is a lot to test here ... Regards, Victor
