OK, good, this shed some light. I was using WinDDI. But trying Queryman now after making this change and the AVERAGE did return the correct result without the cast.

So anyway to get this working in WinDDI? Or more importantly through an independent ODBC connection? This issue arose with the NCR CRM tool which is issuing self-generated SQL over a regular Teradata ODBC connection.
