Doug,

For one time assignments on initial or full reloads, you can use the CSUM function. It gets trickier if you need to assign a number to new rows, etc. For that, you basically have to design a process that uses a number that is incremented by your etl's, or is created, using a date time combination, etc.

Of course, if you are lucky enough to be doing it on v2r5, we have a new identity column specifically for this reason.
