Unix stores the time in seconds since the start of 1970 in a 32bit integer. This will run out in about 2032 (I can't remember the exact
date - it may actually be a year or two after that)
Apparently 'everyone' will be running 64bit systems by then so there won't be a problem, in the same way that in the 1970's people said
'no-one' would be using 2 digit dates in the 1990's. I'm banking on it being a nice little earner just before I retire!
