Subj:   Re: Alternatives to Teradata load utils

From:   Doug Sedlak

A little commentary about Teradata Utilities and the underlying protocols. In a "previous life" I developed SAS/ACCESS to Teradata, a CLIv2 application. And implemented the FastLoad protocol referred to by Ian and others. The protocol is complex, and the programming involved to deliver correct behavior and optimal performance is non-trivial. SAS/ACCESS might be a special case; in general mucking with low level protocols is more trouble than it's worth. Plus, you still must license CLIv2 if you program to CLIv2 protocol.

Nevertheless, I am interested in how to better leverage Teradata Utilities and Warehouse Builder. In terms of the "high cost" of Utilities and Warehouse Builder, one way to contain or lower costs is to better leverage what you've already got.

I'd love to discuss

Doug
