Mindy, 1) the views to be linked to the physical but still be their own things -- By definition, a view is an independent object linked to some underlying physical table 2) the views to inherit definitions yet also have them modifiable -- A view does this automatically unless you specify otherwise. If the underlying tables definition changes (such as a new column being created), you will need to re-create the view since the view's definition is not dynamic once it has been created 3) a way of cataloguing/documenting the views -- All database objects are logged in the DBC database (much like a table) 4) the ability to run reports -- You can run reports against views just as easily as running a report against tables Hope this helps, Clay
