Ray It is difficult from what you've said what the cause of your problem is. A wild guess is that the problem may not be just with create tables but with any write operation. You mention that selects are fine but the create tables seem inefficient. It may be worth looking to see if the disks need to be packed and you may be getting mini cyl packs happening. So, I would suggest that you run a select from one table and take note of the time. Then, run a insert / select into an empty table with the same primary index as the first table. If there is a significant difference in time, the problem may be with the disks. I cannot recommend what packing options are appropriate but I'm sure that there are some people in this forum who would be glad to do so. I hope this does not send you on a wild goose chase.
