You might consider writing a script to determine if statistics even need to be collected and then dynamiclly generating the collect
statistics statement on the fly.
I've done it different ways depending on the customers requirments. On my last project, we collected stats after large changes as well as
dynamically collecting them in scheduled windows.
The V2R5 Statistics Wizard is a pretty cool tool to figure out what columns need stats and generate the statements. Teradata manager
also comes with a manual Statistics Collection tool that you can use on the fly.
