Our business partners are concerned about the reliability of the Teradata SAMPLE clause. The SQL Reference states that the RANDOM function uses the drand48 algorithm, but it doesn't say what is used by SAMPLE. Does anyone know (1) what algorithm is used and (2) whether there are any published data on statistical tests (chi squared, spectral, etc.) for that algorithm?
