Subj:   Expanding an existing system

From:   Robert Lunceford

We have a 4-node 5350 system today that sits as a 4-node clique. We are going to expanding to a 6-node system by adding two 5250 nodes. The 2-node 5250's will be a 2-node clique.

Question is: Can the system be expanded with no significant downtime, other then Teradata resets? Right now, we are told that it will take 3 hours and 27 minutes just to run reconfig portion redistributing the data across all the nodes amps.

I basically want one has to do to maximize uptime for expansions. How other sites do it, if it is done at all? Does it require Fallback to be configured, etc. As we move toward ADW, we will not be able to have extended outages for node expansions.
