There is no optimal setting for all Teradata systems.

This is a parameter you'll need to adjust based on many factors such as

- Hardware Configuration
- Concurrent Process Requirements
- Service Level Objectives

Presuming you'd like to increase this value to achieve greater system utilization, or performance, or . . .

Consider adjusting this value upwards until you feel pain. Then, decrement and monitor.

For example, increment this value by one every day, week, or perhaps even month if you have concerns over significant month-end processing requirements.

Stay sensitive to your service-levels as you monitor Teradata for positive or negative feedback. If you begin to see negative feedback such as problematic system resource contention, then reduce this value and monitor.

Because this is an adjustable value and data warehouses are dynamic in nature, remember that you may need to increase or decrease this value as the data warehouse environment changes and grows.
