And example of what the impact is: We built a new environment to do some testing and forgot to run statistics when we loaded the db's. We killed the first batch runs after over 30 hours. Then we ran statistics and the batch runs completed in less than 30 minutes.

It is VERY important to keep the statistics up to date on all db's.
